The Ellipse shape
In 1968, Patek Philippe launched a series of oval watches called the "Golden Ellipse" that sent the watch world into an uproar. The ellipse, in which the ratio of major to minor axis (a/b) corresponds to the golden ratio (1:1.618), has interesting properties in mathematics, also known as "divine proportions". Perhaps that is why elliptical watches appear to this day on the wrists of the most important personalities in history.
