The Tonneau shape
The Tonneau which forms an ideal compromise between the round and square-shaped watch, became prominent during the Art-Déco era (1920-1940). Tonneaus sat more comfortably, as the cases were curved from the side view, conforming better to the shape of the wrist. After its premiere by Cartier in 1906, the Tonneau became iconic and is constantly re-interpreted. A shape for Gentlemen and Conoisseurs, that like to show their hand at choosing the right aesthetics.
