About the Brand
Fortis was founded in Grenchen in 1912. Ten years after the foundation of the watch manufactory, a cooperation with the English inventor and watchmaker John Harwood was established. This enabled Fortis to produce the first automatic watch in series production in 1926. Since 1994, Fortis has been the official supplier of the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center. In 1998, Fortis presented the development of the first automatic chronograph with mechanical alarm function. In 2017, Fortis ran into financial difficulties. The company applied for debt-restructuring moratorium. Soon after, a private entrepreneur took over the brand and the production site. In the course of this, Fortis Watches was renamed Fortis Watches.
