Jaquet + Girard was founded on June 27, 1946 as R. Jaquet Geneve in Geneva, Switzerland, and renamed Jaquet + Girard in 1962. Unfortunately, little information is available A possible origin of the company could be, for example, the company FJ&G (F. Jaquet & Girard) founded on October 31, 1894 in La Chaux-de-Fond, which originally manufactured pocket watches.
Another origin could be the company Jaquet-Droz, which made very complicated movements.
On the other hand, there was the company Girard Perregaux which sued Jaquet-Girard in 1962 for changing the company name from Jaquet SA to Compagnie Des Montres Jaquet + Girard SA.
It happened that a certain Girard, who had nothing to do with the famous Maison GP but owned the company, changed its name to Compagnie Des Montres Jaquet + Girard SA.
From this was associated with Jaquet, which led to the change of the name of the company.
This angered Girard-Perregaux, which had been selling its watches in the United States under the simple Girard brand name since 1935, and feared it might lead to confusion or deception.
